Bedford high school student with gun is apprehended
A Bedford High School student was taken into police custody shortly after 8 a.m. today after he was found to be in possession of a firearm, police said.
According to a Bedford police press release, school resource officer William Donahue was notified by school staff that a student had been found in possession of .38 caliber handgun at the school. Upon further investigation it was determined that the firearm was unloaded and no ammunition was present.
The unidentified male student was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters, where he was later turned over to the custody of his mother.
Although the investigation into why the firearm was brought to school is still ongoing, it appears that it was an isolated incident and that at no time were any other students or staff members at risk, police said.
