Bad egg salad could cause listeriosis
Egg salad sold at the Harvest Market in Bedford has been removed from the shelves due to Listeria bacteria contamination.
Anyone who purchased deli egg salad between July 18 and 24 is asked to throw it out, according to a statement released Thursday by the state Department of Health and Human Services. “Listeriosis can be a serious infection, especially for pregnant women,” Dr. Jose Montero, director of DHHS, said in a statement.
No illnesses have been reported. Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches and sometimes nausea and vomiting. If the infection spreads to the nervous symptoms, more severe symptoms like headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions can result, DHHS said. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics, so those who suspect they may have the illness are urged to call a doctor.
