Area man gets life term for fatal ’06 shooting

BOSTON – A New Hampshire man convicted of fatally shooting another man to death near Boston’s South Station has been sentenced to life in prison.

Sean Evelyn, of Merrimack, N.H., was sentenced in Suffolk County Superior Court on Monday to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 15 years. He was convicted last week of second-degree murder for shooting 20-year-old Cushings Fortuna three times on New Year’s Eve 2006.

Prosecutors say the men had a prior dispute, then had a brief scuffle after a chance encounter at the station on New Year’s Eve. Evelyn went to his car to retrieve a gun and shot Fortuna as he chased him down city streets.

Evelyn surrendered to police on Jan. 2, 2007.
