6-year-old boy dies after falling in pool

DERRY – A 6-year-old boy died after he fell through a covering of ice in a backyard swimming pool, police said.

Derry Police received a 911 phone call around 3:30 p.m. Saturday from a resident of 26 Brady Ave. The resident reported the child was missing from a relative’s home and there was concern he may have fallen into the swimming pool.

When police and fire officials arrived, they discovered the swimming pool was covered in ice and that one area in the ice appeared to have been recently disturbed.

Rescue workers searched the pool and found the child. The boy was transported to Parkland Medical Center, where he died.

Police are investigating the incident. The child’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
