2 dogs die in fire; owner flees unhurt
Two dogs perished but a woman fled her house Wednesday night unharmed from a damaging fire.
The home on 38 McQuestion Road is uninhabitable, and no one was seriously injured in the late-night blaze, fire Capt. Brian Borneman said Thursday morning. A firefighter was treated at a hospital for minor injuries after slipping on ice, Borneman said.
Firefighters were alerted to the fire shortly before midnight, but had difficulty getting the first arriving fire truck into the driveway because of snow banks, Borneman said.
Once firefighters were able to get situated, it took about 8 minutes to knock down the fire, he said. Crews remained on the scene for a few more hour. Borneman said, adding the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The two-alarm blaze brought in the help of Nashua and Bedford fire crews. Amherst and Manchester fire crews covered open Merrimack stations.
