18-wheeler hits, injures pedestrian
NASHUA – Police think a pedestrian was at fault when he was struck by a tractor-trailer on Amherst Street on Thursday morning.
Michael Volpe, 26, of Nashua, suffered serious injuries after he was hit around 9 a.m., police said in a press release issued Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
Volpe was being treated at St. Joseph Hospital. A hospital representative could not be reached for a report on Volpe’s condition.
Volpe was walking in the area of Amherst Street and Blackstone Drive when he was struck by the truck being driven by Michael Merzi, 46, of Greenfield, police said.
Officers think that “pedestrian error” is the cause of the incident but added that the investigation is ongoing.
The Police Department’s accident reconstruction team had not filed a report Thursday afternoon and was expected to have more details today.
Merzi was not hurt in the incident, police said. A call to Merzi’s residence was not returned Thursday evening.
The State Police commercial vehicle unit assisted in the investigation.
