N.H. Sloan Award applicants sought

Monday, January 10, 2011

Interested employers from across New Hampshire are being urged to apply for the 2010 Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility.

In 2008, Manchester was selected as one of 30 U.S. communities included in the When Work Works initiative, designed to share research and best practices on what makes work “work” in the 21st century. Manchester had four Sloan Award winners in 2009 -- Dynamic Network Systems, Image 4, Child and Family Services and YWCA Manchester. Nationally, 266 winners were announced.

In 2010, the project will expand statewide. Any New Hampshire employer with 10 or more employees is eligible to apply.

The Sloan Awards honor organizations successfully using workplace flexibility as a business strategy to meet both business goals and employee needs.

“Sloan Award winners have put into practice their bold ideas about how to make work work in the 21st century. They have shown they can support the needs of employees, while also making their organizations more effective and successful,” says Ellen Galinsky, president of Families and Work Institute, a founding partner of When Work Works.

When Work Works is an ongoing national initiative of Families and Work Institute, in partnership with U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for a Competitive Workforce and the Twiga Foundation. In New Hampshire, the project is led by The Family Education Collaborative, a coalition of UNH Cooperative Extension, YWCA Manchester, Child and Family Services and the University of New Hampshire-Manchester.

Sloan Award applications are accepted online at whenworkworks.org. There is no fee to apply.
