New London Hospital links with Dartmouth-Hitchcock

New London Hospital has become the latest New Hampshire hospital to join the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Alliance - a move the hospital’s chairman said was "obvious." G. William Helm Jr., chairman of the New London Hospital board, said the affiliation brings "economies of scale in such areas as purchasing medical supplies and equipment and insurance due to the combined size of the alliance membership." Savings could total hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, he said. With New London added, the alliance is made up of 10 hospitals, a mental health center and a home health agency from New Hampshire, Vermont and western Massachusetts. Members collaborate on quality improvement and other initiatives and achieve savings through combined purchasing of supplies and services. "The power of our combined strength results in efficiencies and improvements for all our members," said James W. Varnum, the alliance’s president. Helm called the decision to join the alliance "an exciting moment for New London Hospital," adding that "over the past months it has become more and more obvious that joining the Alliance will have some significant advantages for New London Hospital." - JEFF FEINGOLD Edit ModuleShow Tags
