Mass. man held in ID theft

CONCORD - A Gloucester, Mass., man faces federal identity theft charges, prosecutors said Tuesday. Shawn McGrath, 35, was arraigned Monday in U.S. District Court on a two-count indictment for false representation of a Social Security number and aggravated identity theft. The indictment charges that McGrath used someone else's name, Social Security number, and birth date to get credit. The charges carry a maximum of five years in prison. A judge ordered McGrath to be jailed while awaiting a bail hearing, and his trial was scheduled for Dec. 2.
