Remodeler stole jewelry, cops say

A Salem man is accused of stealing jewelry from a Merrimack home he was remodeling and selling it for cash. Jason Bennett, 24, of 59 Millville Circle, was arrested Monday after police discovered the jewelry had been pawned under his name at a Salem shop, according to a statement from police. He was one of several people employed by the remodeling company that police interviewed after the homeowner reported jewelry missing from her home during construction. Bennett faces five counts of felony theft and two counts of misdemeanor theft. His bail was set at $5,000 Monday, pending an arraignment at 8 a.m. today in Merrimack District Court.
