A New York City man fraudulently cashed more than $9,000 in checks from a local drywall company, police charge.
Benny Melo, 27, stole business checks from the company, where he once worked, and cashed more than $5,000 worth of them in New Hampshire, police Lt. George McCarthy said. He cashed more than $4,000 worth of them in other states, where he could face more charges, McCarthy said.
Melo faces a class A felony charge of theft by deception, consolidation.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Department extradited Melo with a Nashua Police warrant. He was arrested by police Monday.
Melo, of 75 Ellwood St., Apt. 1F, was held without bail pending an arraignment Tuesday.
