Man, son safe after crashing into tree

A Dracut, Mass., man and his 11-year-old son escaped serious injury when their truck crashed into a tree along Dracut Road on Monday evening, Hudson police said. Jason Zolkos, 36, was heading north with his son at about 7:30 p.m., when his 2004 Toyota Tundra veered across the southbound lane and off the road, glancing off one tree before hitting another head-on near 90 Dracut Road, police said. Both Zolkos and his son were wearing seat belts, and both were checked out by Hudson fire personnel. Zolkos was taken to Lowell (Mass.) General Hospital for observation. Police are still investigating what caused Zolkos to lose control but said alcohol was not a factor. - ANDREW WOLFE
