Dr. Dionne’s Seniors pull out win over AAW Despite pounding out 17 hits, Amherst Autoworks fell to Dr. Dionne's Seniors, 10-7, in Over-60 Softball action. DDS had only one more hit than AAW but stranded less men on base. Eight seniors came up with a pair of hits: Dave Padley, Bob Lemieux (both doubles), Al Ross (double), Don Fusco, Jim Noel, Bob Lavoie, Don Smith and Ron Lewis (double). AAW was led by Dick Brown's three doubles and two hits each from Henry Perras (double), Don Steele, Bernie DesBois and Jerry Ferullo. Jok's Auto Sales 6, M&N Sports 4 Fifth-place Jok's held league-leading M&N to 12 hits to gain a much needed win. Dick Gillespie (3-for-3) led the way for Jok's along with help from Ron Lewis and Ron Monteiro, who both went 2-for-3. Leadoff batter Rick Latham added to the mix with 2-for-4 plus a walk. After scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh, and with the tying runs on base, M&N couldn't pull it off. It did get good game performances from the reliable bat of Ron Anderson (3-for-3) and 2-for-2 from outfielder Dave Warren. Jok's Auto Sales 7, Pine St. Eatery 3 Both teams pounded out 15 hits, but PSE stranded 12 in the loss. Jok's had a strong showing from Ron Lewis (3-for-3), while Ron Monteiro, Les Johnson, Charlie Mooradian and Paul Gauthier each went 2-for-3. Bill Hodge came through for PSE, going 3-for-3. Adding to the offense with two hits each were Lenny Rapone, Clarence Farwell and Mitch Milewski. Calvary Lock & Key 6, M&N Sports 5 CLK handed M&N its second loss in a row by limiting M&N to eight hits. Only two CLK players got multiple hits, Dick George and Paul Archer. Seven other players got one hit each. Ron Anderson (two doubles) and Ben Tosi (single, double) were the two bright spots in the M&N lineup. Amherst Autoworks 9, Jok's Auto 7 Jok's jumped to an early 7-2 lead after four, but then the offense sputtered and AAW chipped away, pounding out 18 hits. AAW power was produced by Bob Larose (4-for-4) in the three spot and Dick Brown (4-for-4) batting cleanup. Adding a little extra was Dick Gillespie (3-for-4), Henry Perras (2-for-4) and Peter Ingeneri (2-for-3). Jok's had five batters with two hits: Ron Lewis (homer run), Paul Gauthier, Harold Murphy and Alan Ross. Amherst Autoworks 5, Calvary Lock & Key 1 AAW managed only 11 hits. This time it was the Autoworkers defense that led to the victory. CLK was again playing with subs, but only two hits were mustered out of the four replacements. Dick Gillespie led AAW with 3-for-3 (one double) backed up by 2-for-3 days from Dick Brown (one double) and Dale Stearns. CLK got 2-for 3 efforts from Zeke Zarakotas, Glenn Waugaman and Jay McNay. Harold Weisman displayed solid defense at catcher. Pine St. Eatery 10, Dr. Dionne's Seniors 6 PSE used 22 hits and broke open a 6-6 tie after three while holding the Senior group scoreless the rest of the way. Bruce Landry was perfect (4-for-4) for PSE. Dick George (3-for-4) and Murph Albert (3-for-4) added solid offense. Also popping out two hits were Lenny Rapone, Clarence Farwell, Gene O'Callaghan and Gene Simard. DDS had the top of the order doing most of the damage, collecting eight hits and scoring five of the six runs. Dave Padley and Al Ross (3-for-4) plus Dan Birck (2-for-4, double) comprised the leadoff trio. John Cebrowski and Bob Lavoie also added two hits each. GSBL Rockies over Pirates The Hollis Rockies pounded out 20 hits and scored 16 runs to defeat the Nashua Pirates by a score of 16-0. The Rockies received a solid pitching performance from Bryan Urda, going five innings, striking out three and only giving up one hit. Urda also had three hits and a RBI. Eric Reardon took the loss for the Pirates.
