Presence. It is what makes a great actor great, a great speaker powerful, a great manager trustworthy and a great artist intriguing. Defined as 'The ability to be centered and aware in each moment of communication' (1), presence is a key skill for building great relationships! But how do you build this skill in our high speed society where creating quicker ways to "stay connected" via virtual sources such as text, and email is so common?
Inability to focus on one thing at one time is usually the greatest challenge in being present. Rob Hatch states "Being distracted is not a failing. Choosing to remain distracted is." (2) Learning to recognize and reign in the early signs of distraction is one thing you can work on everyday to improve this.
