BlackRock acquires 5% stake in SkillSoft


Asset management giant BlackRock has acquired a greater than 5 percent stake in the common stock of Nashua-based training software provider SkillSoft as part of an asset transfer on a separate deal.According to documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, BlackRock inherited, for lack of a better term, 5.43 percent of SkillSoft through its Dec. 1 acquisition of Barclays Global Investors from Barclays Bank PLC.“As a result, [substantially all of] the BGI Entities are now included as subsidiaries of BlackRock for purposes of Schedule 13G filings,” said BlackRock in its filing.For the quarter ended Oct. 31, 2009, SkillSoft posted net income of $19.6 million on revenues of $80.4 million, or 21 cents per share, as compared to income of $12 million, or $0.12 per share for the quarter ended Oct. 31, 2008. – CINDY KIBBE/NEW HAMPSHIRE BUSINESS REVIEW
